At The Wilbert Group, we are getting focused on building our video capabilities, including with the recent hire of full-time videographer Wilson Drake. Stay tuned for a formal announcement about our new video unit! Why are we focusing so much on video? Our job is to help clients tell their stories in compelling ways, and research shows people are significantly more likely to engage with video than any other online content. The average time online users spent viewing video has increased by 20 percent in just the last year, with mobile device viewing expected to mushroom an astounding 35 percent from 2016 to 2017.
A few other highlights from recent research reports:
With so much evidence about video viewership, big players are investing heavily. Amazon is gearing up for a showdown with YouTube and Facebook as the company launches a video publication program called Amazon Video Direct. Facebook is in talks with several Hollywood agencies as the company prepares for the next phase of its video plan with original, scripted content. LinkedIn recently announced it will finally let people natively upload videos to the business-centric social network through its mobile app. This is particularly important to us, because LinkedIn is the top social media priority for many of our B2B clients. And Snapchat is addressing longstanding concerns about the difficulty of formatting ads to the platform’s format through a new publishing tool that makes it easier to craft Snapchat-oriented ads.
Companies can now tell their own stories with compelling, engaging video on their websites, social channels and through email programs. We look forward to helping our clients leverage video as part of their overall PR and communications programs.
