As developers aim to create innovative spaces that set their destinations apart, communal outdoor areas are becoming increasingly prevalent. The popularity of adding patios, greenspaces, courtyards and rooftop terraces to real estate ventures has steadily increased over the past several years and we don’t see that trend slowing anytime soon. At The Wilbert Group, we often help activate those spaces for clients, generating media coverage and social media buzz.
Check out two examples:
Colony Square Helipad: In late September 2017, our team had the incredible opportunity to practice yoga at an elevated height – 300 feet above Midtown Atlanta at Colony Square. When Wilbert client North American Properties acquired the mixed-use destination, the team saw value in activating the rooftop helipad. Since the launch of Yoga in the Sky, Colony Square has hosted a handful of exclusive events, including Jazz in the Sky, a partnership with the Atlanta Jazz Festival in which an intimate concert was held to drum up excitement about the upcoming festival. Each intimate concert session filled up within minutes of distributing the weekly e-blasts. The Colony Square team also hosted an eclipse viewing party on the helipad in 2017 that even attracted live reporting from both CBS46 and WSB-TV.
The Summit at Fritz Farm Sip & Shop: A few short weeks after The Summit at Fritz Farm celebrated its first anniversary, we helped our client Bayer Properties launch a new campaign that would not only promote retailers and restaurants, but also highlight the open-air mixed-use destination as a gathering spot with an open container policy. After all, it is a fun and unique experience to stroll with a glass of wine while shopping. At the end of May, we introduced #SipShopSummit to the market and hosted an event that raised money for the Lexington Humane Society and attracted more than 200 guests. The Summit received great praise from retailers such as locally owned Morton James who said, “The Sip & Shop event on The Green was very successful; we had several customers come in that were visiting specifically for the activation. I hope we can do more!” The campaign has also garnered media attention from the Lexington Herald-Leader, TOPS Magazine and broadcast station WKYT.
We expect the outdoor-space trend to continue, and we look forward to finding new creative ways to help our clients bring these spaces to life through activations. Recently, the Atlanta Business Chronicle put it best, “Today, outdoor spaces are becoming sought-after amenities for restaurants, hotels, breweries and bars.”
