The situation. Piedmont Hospital, one of Atlanta’s leading hospitals, is nationally renowned for orthopedics, oncology, cardiovascular and transplants practices. Locally it is respected as a caring member of the community. In 2016, it was ready to announce plans todemolish an antiquated facility on Peachtree Street and build a 16-story, $600 million facility. It needed a communications plan to head off potential neighborhood concerns or controversy.
Wilbert deployed a smart PR strategy. The Wilbert Group developed a plan to bolster the hospital’s community outreach efforts and crafted messaging to explain to neighbors the benefits of the new hospital tower, why its construction was critical to area healthcare, and how it would not be a nuisance. Wilbert convened several neighborhood groups to provide them exclusive details on the new medical tower and seek their input on important issues.
Here’s how it drove business results. Ultimately, the local neighborhood groups unanimously supported the project, which helped win approval from state regulators in December 2016. Piedmont broke ground on the tower the following June. When completed, the tower will provide a 22 percent increase in Piedmont Atlanta’s capacity to care for patients and the community.
